New Partner: Louis van Aardt

On the 6 January 2014, Kott Gunning welcomed new partner Louis van Aardt into its Commercial and Corporate department, joining partners Emma Leys and David Miller, along with the rest of the team. 

With nearly 15 years of legal experience in domestic and cross-border M&A, IPO's, capital raising's, joint ventures, corporate governance, asset protection and much more, Louis will add an exciting new dimension to Kott Gunning's existing corporate and commercial law services. 

New merger for Kott Gunning's associate firm

One of Kott Gunning’s associate firms, Colin Biggers & Paisley (CBP) has recently expanded their practice into the Queensland market by merging with the Brisbane firm Hemming + Hart.  CBP already has major firms in Melbourne and Sydney and will be opening their doors in Brisbane on 4th November 2013.  

Kott Gunning has had a close working relationship with CBP Lawyers for many years through Advoc (the international network of independent law firms) and we wish them all the best with their expansion into Queensland.

Many of our readers dealing with Workers' Compensation will be familiar with this case. The High Court in Comcare v PVYW [2013] HCA 41 has today determined that a claimant who suffered injuries during an out of hours sexual encounter while on an overnight work related trip will not be entitled to workers’ compensation. There have already been comments that the decision represents a victory for common sense, and it will hopefully be seen as the last word on a number of the issues thrown into question by the claim to date.

YouTube and Blogs assist in obtaining Conviction for Unauthorised Motorsport Facility

Neighbours are at last enjoying a reprieve from the burnout smoke and noise associated with an unauthorised motorsport facility being run from a 12 acre site outside Perth.

Anne Wood (Senior Associate) recently ran a successful prosecution on behalf of the local government in question, resulting in fines and costs of $78,000 being imposed on the owner.

Neighbours had complained for months about the noise and smoke coming from the site on an almost daily basis.
