Kott Gunning turns 95!

Kott Gunning was established in 1919, when Max Kott set up office at Weld Chambers in Perth. Today we’re one of Western Australia’s most established law firms – and one of its most adaptable. On 19 September the firm celebrates it’s 95th anniversary and also honour the significant contribution made by long serving partner Laurie James. Mr James started with Kott Gunning as an articled clerk in 1963 and has been a partner since 1967.  He is a Senior In-house Counsel and Senior Partner in the Local Government Practice Group.

Kott Gunning’s strong focus on clients and our robust knowledge of the state’s corporate and commercial landscape are among our trademarks. The firm’s continued delivery of personalised, quality legal advice has seen Kott Gunning evolve into the progressive and steadfastly independent law firm that it is today.

“We are a client focused law firm and take our relationships seriously,” says managing partner Stephen Williams. “In a constantly changing business environment, clients continue to rely on us for informed accurate and tailored advice. 95 years on, we’re still committed to Western Australian business and the community.”

Kott Gunning further strengthens its expertise in trust and estate matters

Kott Gunning’s longstanding expertise in providing advice and representation in relation to complex trust and inheritance matters has been further strengthened by its involvement with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

STEP is a worldwide professional association for practitioners experienced in dealing with family inheritance and succession planning.  STEP members must not only demonstrate relevant experience to become a Member and meet high professional standards, but must also comply with a Code of Professional Conduct requiring them at all times to act with integrity and in a manner that inspires confidence, respect and trust of clients and the wider community.

Congratulations to Kott Gunning partners David Miller, Mark Fatharly, Tim Lethbridge and Elise Croft, all now full members of STEP, for holding a minimum of 5 years detailed experience in the trust and estate matters, and to Claire Hawke-Gundill, Solicitor, for becoming an Associate Member.

Congratulations also to Mark Fatharly for being elected as a Council Member on the STEP Western Australia Committee in May 2014.
