Trent is a Senior Associate in Kott Gunning’s Insurance and Risk Practice Group.  His experience working for both plaintiffs and defendants over the years has provided him with invaluable experience and insight into general and complex matters on both sides of the fence.  As a result, he has been able to draw on this experiences and integrate the best practices and knowledge into his practice as well as our firm’s own Insurance and Risk Practice Group.

Trent’s experience and current practice covers a range of insurance related matters, these days almost exclusively for defendants (insurers and employers), principally in the workers’ compensation or employers’ indemnity, personal injury and public liability areas, including straightforward personal injury claims where both liability and quantum are disputed as well as more complex disputes involving multiple dates of injury or multiple employer/insurer situations and indemnity disputes. In addition, Trent also has experience in motor vehicle accident and criminal injury compensation claims.

Over the years, Trent has worked with numerous national and international insurers, self-insurers, brokers and their clients as well as hundreds of plaintiff clients. In this regard, Trent has acted for clients operating in the construction, mining, oil and gas, retail, industrial, health care, hospitality, manufacturing, professional services, state government and local government sectors.

Trent regularly appears at WorkCover WA and the District Court. He has also appeared as Counsel in the following courts and tribunals: Supreme Court of Western Australia; District Court of Western Australia; Conciliation and Arbitration Service – WorkCover WA and the State Administrative Tribunal.

Trent is experienced in:

  • drafting advice and legal opinions;
  • appearing as counsel;
  • advising on indemnity wording; and
  • advising on strategic claims management issues.
